Top LeT commander killed in encounter with security forces in Sopore |
![]() In Jammu and Kashmir a top Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore area of Baramulla district in Kashmir today. According to Police sources, Security forces launched an operation in Tarzoo area of Sopore town last evening following information about presence of militants there. A gunfight broke out when militants opened firing on security forces. The operation was suspended for the night but security forces cordoned the entire area to prevent the ultras from escaping. The police said one militant was killed when the operation resumed this morning. According to AIR Baramulla Correspondent the slain militant has been identified as Mehmood Bhai, a resident of Pakistan. Meanwhile, in a major breakthrough, security forces have busted a militant hideout and seized a huge cache of arms and explosives, in Kishtwar district. Defence sources told AIR that Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police on the specific intelligence inputs about existance of hideout, launched joint search operation yesterday during which the arms and ammunitions were recovered. |
